Hubert Lamb

Hubert Horace Lamb (born September 22, 1913 in Bedford , † June 28, 1997 in Holt , Norfolk ) was an English climatologist . He founded the Climate Research Unit at the University of East Anglia .

Act

In historical climatology, Lamb is considered to be one of the pioneers in working with historical testimonies to reconstruct the climate history of the last centuries and to research the effects of past climate changes on society. Lamb coined the term Medieval Warm Period . His use of climate indices and his work on the connection between volcanic eruptions and the resulting short-term climatic fluctuations are particularly emphasized. In 1972 he introduced the Dust Veil Index, which is still used today, to characterize them .

Lamb was the grandson of mathematician Horace Lamb . His son Norman Lamb is a Member of the English Parliament for North Norfolk .

He became friends with Lewis Fry Richardson from an early age. Meanwhile Quäkerphilosophie influenced Lamb sustainable.
