Hubert Lang (diplomat)

Hubert Lang (born July 27, 1946 in Achern ) is a German diplomat , Arabist and Islamic scholar . From 2007 to 2011 he was ambassador to Bahrain .

Life

After graduating from high school, he first studied philology at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg from 1966 to 1968 and joined the diplomatic service while still studying in 1968 . After completing his preparatory service in 1971, he completed a course of study in the Arabic language in Lebanon and was then employed at the embassy in Algeria from 1973 to 1974 and in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from 1974 to 1978 . At the same time he obtained a diploma in Arabic studies in 1977 at the seminar for oriental languages ​​of the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn .

After working as the head of the Dubai branch of the embassy in the UAE from 1978 to 1980, he worked at the German embassy in Paris and then from 1984 to 1989 in Morocco . During his time as an employee at the headquarters of the Foreign Office in Bonn from 1989 to 1995 was carried out in 1992 and his doctorate to the doctor of Islamic studies at the University of Hamburg . After a subsequent assignment as head of the consular department and cultural advisor at the embassy in Lebanon, he worked between 1998 and 2002 as an advisor in the Middle East Department of the Political Department at the Foreign Office in Bonn and in Berlin after the government moved due to the Berlin / Bonn Act . From 2002 to 2005 he was political advisor at the German Embassy in Washington and then Consul General in Jeddah .

From July 2007 to June 2011 Hubert Lang was the German ambassador in Bahrain . Since then he has lived in the Black Forest. Lang is married to Michèle Ruckebusch; they have three children. He has been the recipient of the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon since 1978.
