Hubert Nold

Hubert Nold (born September 5, 1861 in Wetzlar ; † May 16, 1935 in Burbach ) was a German Protestant pastor and superintendent .

Life

Hubert Nold studied at the Philipps University in Marburg , at the Humboldt University in Berlin and at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn . He then attended the seminary in Neuwied and began his vicar service in Sulzbach . In 1989 he was elected the second pastor of Malstatt . He was ordained in 1889 . The Evangelical Church in Burbach, which was inaugurated in 1898, was built under his leadership.

In 1913 he was elected superintendent of the Saarbrücken church district. In 1919 he was appointed representative of the Evangelical Church in the Rhineland at the League of Nations Commission of the Saar region. In 1922 he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn .

In 1929 he became deputy chairman of the provincial church council . In 1933, Nold asked Adolf Hitler to protect the evangelical clergy from the Saarland and emphasized national sentiments. In the struggle for the Saar referendum, however, he turned against the German Christians . On July 23, 1933, he co-signed a press statement that was against the German Christians, but not against National Socialism at the same time . On September 17, 1934, Nold and Philipp Bleek , Otto Wehr and Karl Roderich Richter wrote a letter to Hitler to protest against the violent measures used by the German Christians in the German Reich .
