Hubert Schröter

Hubert Schröter (born March 19, 1936 ) is a former German police officer and SED functionary. From 1980 to 1989 he was head of the district authority of the German People's Police (BDVP) Halle .

Life

Schröter joined the SED and became a member of the German People's Police on August 1, 1953. On July 1, 1976, he was promoted to colonel in the VP.

After Willi Engelmann fell ill and had to act as head of the district authority of the German People's Police (BDVP) in Halle, he was officially appointed head of the BDVP by the National Defense Council of the GDR on November 21, 1980 . From February 1981 to 1989 he was a member of the SED district leadership in Halle. On June 28, 1985, he was appointed major general by the chairman of the GDR's National Defense Council, Erich Honecker . In August 1989 he was dismissed from the service of the DVP for health reasons and replaced by Colonel VP Dieter Makarski.

After the reunification and peaceful revolution in the GDR , he and Alfred Kolodniak were expelled from the SED-PDS on January 13, 1990 for behavior that was harmful to the party.

Condemnation

Schröter was investigated for infidelity . He was from January 2 to October 1, 1990 in remand taken. On February 26, 1992, the trial of Schröter began before the 4th criminal division of the Halle District Court. He was accused of abuse of trust, the provision of illegal pecuniary advantages and criminal infidelity to socialist property. His trial was the first in the city of Halle against a leading functionary of the SED regime . On March 30, 1992, he was sentenced to 14 months suspended prison sentence.
