Hubertus Hess-Grunewald

Hubertus Hess-Grunewald (born October 14, 1960 in Varel ) is a German lawyer and football official . He is president of the sports club SV Werder Bremen and a member of the management of its professional sports division SV Werder Bremen GmbH & Co. KGaA.

As a lawyer, Hess-Grunewald specialized primarily in labor and civil service law.

Life

Education, full-time career and private life

Hess-Grunewald studied law at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen from 1980 to 1985 . After the first state examination in law , he worked as a research assistant at the institute for labor law of his alma mater in 1986 and 1987 . He then received a doctoral scholarship from the Hans Böckler Foundation, which was limited to 1989 . Between 1989 and 1993 he completed his legal clerkship in Bremen before taking the second state examination in law. In 1993 he was still awarded the law with his dissertation . The legal reservation in § 87 paragraph 1 introductory clause of the Works Constitution Act 1972 doctorates .

In 1993 Hess-Grunewald was admitted to the bar and since then has been part of a law firm in Bremen, of which he became a partner in 1997. In the same year he specialized in labor law . After his appointment as club president of Werder Bremen, Hess-Grunewald withdrew from his legal practice at the beginning of 2015.

Career as a sports official

Hess-Grunewald became a member of SV Werder Bremen on August 28, 1970 and played soccer in the youth teams. Later he was in charge of the Werder holiday camps. After his return to Bremen in 1989, he joined the fifth team of the old men at the suggestion of the then club host Horst Münte .

Between 1993 and 1999 he was a member of the board of the club's amateur soccer department and then moved to the supervisory board of the professional sports division SV Werder Bremen GmbH & Co. KGaA - since 2005 he was deputy chairman of this body. From 2003 he also worked as vice-president of the entire club. On November 24, 2014, he was elected as the successor to Klaus-Dieter Fischer by the general meeting with only two abstentions as the new club president. A few days later, on December 10th, the presidium elected him in a unanimous decision - and again to succeed Fischer - as a representative of the association in the professional management. Since January 1, 2015, Hess-Grunewald has been responsible for the areas of performance center, soccer school, women's soccer, other sports and corporate social responsibility . By changing to the management, he resigned from the supervisory board.
