Hubertus Lossow

Hubertus Lossow (born January 2, 1911 in Opole , Upper Silesia , † August 16, 2011 in Berlin ) was a German art historian .

Life

After studying art history Lossow was at in 1935 Wroclaw University doctorate . He had been employed at the Silesian Museum of Fine Arts in Wroclaw since 1934 , where he was appointed acting director in 1943 . Shortly before the end of the Second World War , Lossow fled Silesia when the Soviet Army approached on January 22, 1945 and found his new place of work in Berlin.

In Berlin, Lossow initially worked as a scientific clerk at the former National Museums in Berlin , and from 1948 as their scientific curator . In 1953 Lossow was appointed professor of art history at the Berlin University of Fine Arts , where he retired in 1976 , but remained there for another three years as a self- advocate .

Lossow wrote a number of art-historical non-fiction books since his time as a student in Breslau or later also acted as editor . In addition to his scientific work, he also worked as a painter and was a member of the Berlin Artists Association .

He is buried in the forest cemetery in Zehlendorf .
