Hubertus Siegert
Hubertus Siegert (born October 4, 1959 in Düsseldorf ) is a German director and producer of cinema documentaries. Since Berlin Babylon , Siegert has relied in particular on the process-based observation of his protagonists over a longer period of time, which means that his films allow an emotional approach at eye level.
Life
Siegert attended the Humboldt Gymnasium in Düsseldorf, which he left in 1978 after graduating from high school. From 1980 he studied history, art history, theater and film at the FU Berlin and subsequently landscape architecture at the TU Berlin . Since the 90s he has worked in various areas of film production, including a. as production manager, assistant editor and sound designer. In 1992 he founded the production company SUMO Film and has since concentrated on working as a director and producer of documentary films. His first feature documentary Berlin Babylon was the opening film of the Panorama section of the Berlinale2001 and one of the five most successful German documentaries in the same year. For the television documentaries 24h Berlin - A Day in the Life and 24h Jerusalem , he directed one episode each. In 2014 he produced Conduct! - Every movement counts from Götz Schauder. In June 2015 his first international documentary Beyond Punishment will be released in cinemas. This is nominated for the German Film Prize as best documentary film.
From 2009 to 2017 he was a board member of the German Film Academy .
Siegert is married and has one son. He lives in Berlin.
