Neisse film festival

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Neisse Film Festival ( abbreviation NFF) has been held every year since 2004 in the German-Polish-Czech border triangle . The program of this film festival will show German, Polish, Czech and other Eastern European contemporary and historical films , documentaries and short films.

history

The Neisse Film Festival emerged in 2004 from the film club movement. It was founded by the main organizer of the festival, the Kunstbauerkino Großhennersdorf in cooperation with the Varšava cinema in Liberec in the Czech Republic and the Polish DKF Klaps in Jelenia Góra . The founders of the Neisse Film Festival are therefore rooted in a European country corner that, due to its history, finds it difficult to find each other. The festival, according to the founding idea, aims to bring the inhabitants of the border region closer to one another through the medium of film. In the first year of the festival, 800 viewers saw 41 films; In 2019 there were 7,500 viewers and around 120 films in 22 venues in 12 locations in the three countries.

program

The Neisse Film Festival is the only film festival in Germany that shows a cross-border program in three countries at the same time. In addition to the competition for feature films, short films and documentaries, special film series and an extensive supporting program with readings, exhibitions, concerts and other events are also presented.

focus

Since 2013, the Neisse Film Festival has been dedicated to a topic that is of particular importance for all three countries. For example, in 2013 the minority of the Sinti and Roma, in 2014 Jewish life in Eastern Europe and in 2015 the topic of migration were the focus. The motto of the 13th edition of the NFF was “Minorities in Eastern Europe”, with a particular focus on the Sorbs minority in Lusatia . In 2017 the focus of the festival was on “The Power of Faith”. 50 years of 1968 were the occasion to focus on the events of 1968.

Tour through Eastern Europe

In addition to the respective focus, films from the Balkans, the Baltic States and the former Soviet republics will be shown as part of the festival.

DEFA series

The DEFA series with films from the GDR heritage is an integral part of the program . In 2012 the Neisse Film Festival was awarded the program prize of the DEFA Foundation .

Regionalia

This series picks up on the fact that the border triangle is not only a theme and motif for films, but also a production site, and summarizes current film events in the region.

Prize sculptures

Prize sculptures are the Neisse fish. They symbolize the freedom of the fish of the border river, which move without any barrier. In the early years the Neisse fish were made of wood and were created by the artist Michael Herbrig from Großhennersdorf. Since 2007 they have been the work of ceramic, metal and glass by the artist Andreas Kupfer from Strahwalde.
