Film Association of Saxony

The Filmverband Sachsen e. V. is a non-profit registered association . It was founded on December 13, 1990 to represent the interests of Saxon filmmakers and is based in Dresden . The association is a member of the interest group of the regional cultural associations in Saxony .

Club structure

The association currently has over 100 members:

  • Film production companies
  • Freelance filmmakers: producers, directors, cinematographers, assistants, composers, journalists, screenwriters, editors and others.
  • Federal and state associations
  • Film festivals

The general assembly as the highest body elects a nine-member board every two years to represent the association. The Executive Board currently consists of the following people (as of 2013): Sandra Strauß (Chair), Joachim Günther (Deputy Chair), Michael Schlaszus (Treasurer), Andrej Krabbe , Kathleen Biermann , Michael Harbauer , Ralf Kukula , Yury Winterberg , Mike Brandin (Assessor ). The Filmverband Sachsen maintains an office in which Uwe Penckert (managing director) and Christian Zimmermann (project staff) work. The headquarters of the office is the media culture center in Dresden. The association is a founding member of the interest group of the regional cultural associations of Saxony. He is recognized and financially supported by the Saxon State Ministry for Science and Art and the Cultural Office of the State Capital Dresden as a contact in the field of film, media and cultural policy. The Filmverband Sachsen is perceived as an institution for film funding.

Range of tasks

The Filmverband Sachsen e. V. has the tasks according to the statutes:

  • Advice in the fields of development, production, promotion
  • Support of young talent initiatives
  • Presentation of Saxon films
  • media policy representation
  • Networking the fim-cultural infrastructure of Saxony
  • Support for media policy projects
  • National and international exchange projects
  • Initial and continuing education

Publications

The association is the publisher of the media trade journal “Triggers”. This independent magazine appears in 5 issues a year and deals with the following topics: media politics, work with young talent, presentations of Saxon film companies, film history, literature and other things. The trigger has a print run of currently 2200 copies and is distributed throughout Germany. Other publications include a. the annually released viewing DVD "Förderfilme aus Sachsen", the interactive CD-ROM "Dresden-Filmografie" and the interactive CD-ROM "Förderfilme aus Sachsen". The Filmverband Sachsen and the media library of the Saxon State and University Library Dresden (SLUB) work together to maintain and update the funding film database .

Events

The association offers a number of annual events. The central event is the Saxony Film Summer , which took place for the fourth time in 2011. Since 2008, this industry get-together has been perceived by companies, filmmakers and institutions active in Saxony and Central Germany as an important network meeting and information event. Cooperation partners for the events include the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony , the Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung GmbH and the Media Foundation of the Sparkasse Leipzig . In addition, the association presents special programs with Saxon films every year at the Filmfest Dresden and DOK Leipzig festivals .

The association was a cooperation partner for the Festival Trickfilmlounge in Dresden 2008.

The Film Association of Saxony was involved in the film series “Überirdisch” for the 33rd German Evangelical Church Congress 2011 , which was held from January to May 2011 in the Dresden arthouse cinemas.

Prices

  • The association awards the young talent award, endowed with 500 euros, at the Leipzig short film festival Kurzsuechtig.
  • The Filmverband Sachsen has been awarding the 550 Euro Prize for Tolerance and Mutual Respect as part of the Neisse Film Festival since 2011.
  • At the international children's and youth film festival “Schlingel” in 2011, the National Short Film Prize of 500 euros will be awarded for the first time.

Commitment to preserving evidence of film history

The association worked with the Filmarchiv Austria , ZDF and arte on the restoration of Robert Wiene's silent film Rosenkavalier , which was shown in a restored version on September 6, 2006 in the Semperoper in Dresden.
