Huell Burnley Howser (born October 18, 1945 in Gallatin , Tennessee , † January 7, 2013 in Palm Springs ) was an American presenter and producer .

Live and act

Howser, whose first name is a Portmanteau word from the first names of his parents Harold Chamberlain and Jewell Havens Howser born. Burnley's first served with the US Marine Corps . In the early 1970s he began producing the tabloids Happy Features and The Happy World of Huell Howser for WSMV-TV in Nashville . He also acted as a moderator in front of the camera. In early 1981 Howser went to California, where he initially worked as a reporter for various TV stations. He had his breakthrough in 1994 with his show California's Gold : In 18 seasons with a total of 443 episodes, he travels the state of California and introduces the audience to extraordinary people, landscapes and sights. For example, the report on the actor Perry King's motorcycle collection is linked to other reports on the country and its people. In 2009, he bequeathed the rights to the episodes of the series to the private Chapman University in order to make them digitally accessible and available for research. Howser died of cancer in his adopted home of California, with which he felt very attached. His reporting was so popular because of his personal style that Matt Groening had him appear in two episodes of The Simpsons in season 16 .
