Hug de Llupià

Hug de Llupià i Bages (* before 1379 in Roussillon , † 1427 in Valencia ) was a Roman Catholic clergyman, Bishop of Tortosa and Bishop of Valencia . He was also a writer. He belonged to a noble family from Roussillon and was the brother of Ramon de Llupià.

biography

He was the son of Pere de Llupià, lord of Bages and of the castle of Monistrol in Roussillon.

In 1379 he was appointed bishop of Tortosa . He stayed there until 1397. In 1388 he established the feast of the Immaculate Conception in his diocese . He also issued various synodic constitutions in 1390, 1393 and 1397.

When Johann I died, he took part in an embassy to Sicily to meet his brother Martin. I request to come back to Catalonia . Benedict XIII. appointed him Bishop of Valencia after the application of King Martin I. He was Bishop of Valencia from 1398 until his death in 1427. In 1408 he took part in the Council of Perpignan . Nevertheless, he did not take part in the Council of Constance . He called a synod in 1422. In this synod he passed eight canonical laws regarding mass and its ceremonies. He was buried under the main chapel of Valencia Cathedral. Francesc Eiximenis dedicated his pastoral (pastoral letter) to him. This book was written in Latin and is about advice to priests and bishops, modeled on the classic pastorale of Gregory the Great .
