Hugh Dalton
Edward Hugh John Neale Dalton, Baron Dalton (born August 26, 1887 at Neath , Glamorgan , † February 13, 1962 in London ) was a British politician .
Dalton was a Labor member and had been a member of the British House of Commons since 1924. In 1940 he became Minister for War Economics and Secret, as Minister of Special Operations , Head of the SOE and in 1942 Minister of Commerce. From 1945 to 1947 he was Chancellor of the Exchequer , but had to resign after he had previously disclosed information about planned tax changes in an interview. From 1948 to 1951 he was a member of the Attlee cabinet .
Dalton was promoted to Life Peer in 1960 by Queen Elizabeth II as Baron Dalton , of Forest and Frith in the County Palatine of Durham .
