Hugh Graham (show jumper)

Hugh Graham (born February 10, 1949 in Ontario ) is a Canadian show jumper .

He started at two Olympic Games and three Pan American Games for Canada. He also represented Canada at 23 Nations Cups , in 4 World Cup competitions and at the 1990 World Championships. He was the Canadian Show Jumping Champion twice, and also twice Rider of the Year.

Career

Graham began riding horses at the age of 12. In high school he was a champion of the calf roper, a lasso competition. However, due to a broken leg, he gave up the sport.

In the 1970s he worked for the Olympic champion Jim Day , where he also discovered his interest in show jumping.

Graham won his first grand prize in 1973 and was accepted into the Canadian Nations Cup team in 1982. At the Olympic Games in 1984 he was the only one on the team who managed a clear round, bringing Canada to fourth place. At the Pan American Games in 1987, he defeated the US team with a clear round and won team gold for Canada.

He also won the prestigious Queen Elizabeth II Cup at Spruce Meadows on Money Talks .

He is currently ranked 336th in the world.

Private

In 1987 Graham married Cindy Firestone. The couple live in Bolton with their daughter Laurel .
