Hugh John Llewellyn Beadnell

Hugh John Llewellyn Beadnell (born October 14, 1874 - January 2, 1944 in London ) was a British explorer and cartographer .

He was the second son of CE Beadnell. He married May Grace Thomson in 1904.

After studying at King's College London and the Royal School of Miners , he joined the British Army. As part of the Geological Survey of Egypt (1896 to 1906) he mapped large parts of the Nile valley and the Egyptian part of the Libyan desert , partly together with John Ball . After military stays in Canada and the Middle East, he mapped the Sinai and the Red Sea coast from 1921 to 1925 , and again the Libyan Desert from 1927 to 1932.

His contributions to the geography, but also to the fauna of the Libyan desert are of outstanding value, which has earned him numerous awards from the Geological Society and the Royal Geographical Society .
