Hugh Southern Stephenson

Sir Hugh Southern Stephenson KCMG , KCVO , OBE ( November 29, 1906 - September 23, 1972 ) was a British ambassador .

Life

Hugh Stephenson was founded in 1931 officials of the colonial administration in British India and married in 1936 Patricia Elizabeth Mills, they had three sons. After the partition of India he was employed in Pakistan until 1950 and in Cairo from 1952 to 1954. From 1955 to 1957 he was ambassador to Saigon . From October 14, 1957 to January 7, 1960 he was Consul General in New York City and was then stationed in Akrotiri and Dekelia until 1960 . Hugh Stephenson chaired the Joint Intelligence Committee (United Kingdom) for the Cuban Missile Crisis in October 1962. In June 1963 he was accepted into the Order of the British Empire and sent to South Africa as High Commissioner .
