Hugo Eymann

Hugo Eymann OSB (born November 29, 1944 ) is a German Benedictine and Catholic Old Testament scholar.

Life

Siegfried Eymann entered 1965, the religious order of the Benedictines in the Archabbey Beuron in and took the religious name of Hugo on. He made his profession on April 9, 1967 . After studying philosophy and theology, he completed a degree in patrology with Basil Studer OSB at the Pontifical Athenaeum Sant'Anselmo in Rome. At the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg he received his doctorate theologiae in 1984 with the church historian Karl Suso Frank OFM with a thesis on the writing De similitudine carnis peccati by Eutropius .

He is committed to scientific studies on the Old Latin Bible and is the director of the Vetus Latina Institute Beuron . The Vetus Latina Institute, founded by Bonifatius Fischer OSB after the end of the war in 1945 , deals with the roots of the Christian Occident. The aim of his work is to sift through and to order all evidence of ancient Latin Bible texts that were translated into Latin from Greek traditions between the second and eighth centuries before the publication of the Bible edition that had become the Vulgate under Charlemagne and to prepare scientifically. A special research goal is the publication of all Roman letters ( Letter of Paul to the Romans ), together with the theologian Eva Schulz-Flügel .

Since 2010 he has lived in the Benedictine cella on the island of Reichenau and, together with Father Stephan Vorwerk OSB, looks after the Reichenau pastoral care unit.
