Kazimiera Szczuka

Kazimiera Szczuka (born June 22, 1966 in Warsaw ) is a Polish literary historian, literary critic, television journalist and activist of the feminism movement.

She is a lecturer on gender studies at the Institute for Literary Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences and at the Directing Faculty of the Aleksander Zelwerowicz Theater Academy in Warsaw .

She was co-founder of the women's association “8. March ”and participated in the organization of the annual“ Manifa ”women's marches. She was one of the founders of the Green Party "2004" and is a member of the editorial team of the non-communist left-wing magazine Krytyka Polityczna and the feminist information service Feminoteka .

She wrote two books on women's rights and two more in collaboration with Maria Janion and Katarzyna Bratkowska.

She studied literary history at the University of Warsaw with Maria Janion . Her diploma thesis was awarded the Jan Józef Lipski Prize .

She often appears on state and private television channels with cultural and political programs and gives interviews on current issues.

From 2004 to 2006 she moderated the quiz program Najsłabsze ogniwo ( Weakest Link ) on private TVN television.

She is heavily attacked by right-wing media for her actions in favor of sex education, contraception, enabling abortion in difficult life situations and participation in the LGBT movement.

She applied unsuccessfully in Bydgoszcz for the 2014 European elections in Poland as a non-party candidate with the support of the Twój Ruch party and received 10,515 votes.
