Hugo Hinck
Hugo Hinck (* 1840 in Glückstadt ; † January or February 1876 in Greifswald ) was a German classical philologist and librarian .
Life
Hugo Hinck studied Classical Philology at the University of Kiel , where he was primarily influenced by Otto Ribbeck . Hinck developed his dissertation from a prize assignment by the Philosophical Faculty, which dealt with the relationship between two important manuscripts in the Sophocles tragedy Elektra , with which he was awarded a doctorate in 1863. phil. received his doctorate . The work remained unprinted according to the regulations of the time.
After completing his studies (from 1864), a scholarship enabled Hinck to undertake a longer educational trip to Rome, which he used for intensive studies of the archaeological collections. Hinck frequented the German Archaeological Institute , where he worked as an assistant to the secretary Wilhelm Henzen from 1867 and thus extended his stay by a few years. The German Archaeological Institute elected him in 1866 as a corresponding member and in 1870 as a full member. In Rome, Hinck published studies on ancient art archeology and on Greek manuscripts. He also produced two editions late ancient Greek writings, namely the falsely Libanios attributed letter plate (ἐπιστολιμαῖοι χαρακτῆρες, 1869) and the declamations of the Greek sophist and rhetorician Polemon of Laodicea (1873, preface of December 1872).
In the summer of 1873, Hinck left Italy again and went to Heidelberg University Library as curator on June 23, 1873 . On November 1, 1874, he moved to the University Library of Greifswald in the same capacity . He died in early 1876, before February 8th, of chronic lung disease.
