August Hugo Weber , von Weber since 1871 , (born April 24, 1824 in Beuthen , † August 7, 1888 in Kassel ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

He was the son of the Prussian major general August Weber (1797–1861) and his first wife Johanna Helene, née Priemer (1793–1842).

Military career

After attending the community school and grammar school in Gleiwitz , Weber joined the 38th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army as a musketeer in July 1841 . He was promoted to second lieutenant by April 1843 and took part in the street fighting in Frankfurt am Main in 1848 during the German Revolution . In 1849 he and his regiment were used to suppress the revolutionary unrest in Baden and the Palatinate . Weber took part in the battles near Ladenburg , Greater Saxony, Sinsheim , Gernsbach and the Oos .

As a prime lieutenant from April 1857 to the end of October 1858 he was a company commander in the Landwehr battalion of the 38th Infantry Regiment in Wohlau . Weber was promoted to captain on May 31, 1859 and then worked again from August 1859 to February 1860 in his old position in the Landwehr battalion. In mid-August 1860 he was appointed company commander . As such, he was involved in the war against Austria in 1866 in the battles near Skalitz , Schweinschädel and Königgrätz . Because of his brave behavior during the war, Weber was commended and promoted to major on July 20, 1866 . At the end of October 1866 he was given command of the Fusilier Battalion of Infantry Regiment No. 83 . Here he was promoted to lieutenant colonel in July 1870 . In the war against France in 1870/71 he took part in the battles at Weißenburg , Wörth , Beaumont , Sedan , where he was wounded, Orléans and Le Mans . He was also involved in the siege of Paris , the battle at Artenay , the battles at Châteaudun , Chartres , Freteval, Ballon and Alençon . As he had proven himself particularly well, Weber was raised to the hereditary Prussian nobility on June 16, 1871 by Wilhelm I and at the end of the year was awarded the Iron Cross First Class.

With a position à la suite , Weber was commissioned at the beginning of 1872 to lead the 2nd Grand Ducal Hessian Infantry Regiment (Grand Duke) No. 116 in Gießen . With the promotion to colonel , he was appointed regimental commander on January 18, 1872. family

Weber married on April 29, 1851 in Mainz with Maria Theodora Knyn (1829-1880), the daughter of the former Reich Commissioner Theodor Friedrich Knyn . With her he had two daughters who died in childhood and a son, Theodor , who was the only one who survived him.
