Hugo Kracht (born March 16, 1870 in Gelsenkirchen ; † September 23, 1953 in Bad Laasphe ) was a German teacher, author of traveling literature, co-founder of the German Youth Hostel Association and a long-time board member of the Sauerland Mountain Association (SGV).

Life

After completing his training, Kracht worked as a teacher in Katernberg - Stoppenberg near Essen . In 1893 he joined the SGV and in 1901 founded the local SGV branch in Katernberg-Stoppenberg, which he headed until 1933. Another 25 local departments were founded by him in the course of time. From 1919 to 1933 he held the post of deputy chairman of the SGV general association.

Under Karl Eugen Dellenbusch he was chairman of the SGV districts Unteruhr and Wittgenstein and supervised the construction of the Kohlberghaus . He was involved in the establishment of the German Youth Hostel Association and enabled the construction of a youth hostel at the Hasper dam by collecting donations with the planning participation of his SGV local department . During Dellenbusch's imprisonment, he temporarily assumed the main chairmanship of the SGV from August 1945 until a full board could be re-elected in 1947.
