Hugo L. Braune

Hugo L. Braune (born February 1, 1872 in Frankenhausen ; † unknown) was a German painter , lithographer and illustrator . The date and circumstances of his death are unknown. It is believed that he died during the First World War .

Braune studied at the Art Academy in Leipzig and at the Weimar School of Painting . There he was a student of Theodor Hagen and Leopold von Kalckreuth . Around 1908 he worked in Berlin. In Stuttgart , he made ceiling paintings in the Königin-Olga-Bau on Schloßplatz , which were later destroyed.

Special recognition he achieved through a cycle of Art Nouveau - lithographs in which he Wagner represents stage works.

  1. The year of birth given above was definitely wrong. 1872 after Ries, Illustration und Illustratoren [...] 1871-1914 , Osnabrück 1992, p. 446. The other relevant directories (Thieme-Becker, Fanelli-Godoli etc.) also have 1872.
