Hugo Mallet

Hugo Mallet (* 1962 in London ) is a British opera singer ( tenor ).

Life

He completed his vocal studies at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. He completed master classes with Carlo Bergonzi , Hugues Cuénod , Brigitte Fassbaender , Alfredo Kraus , Sherrill Milnes and Alberto Zedda . Since 1988 he has been training with Nicolai Gedda . He played guitar and also sang in various English rock bands.

He had permanent engagements in Cologne, Detmold and Freiberg. Since then he has worked as a freelancer in Nordhausen ( Andrea Chénier ), Zagreb ( Lohengrin ) and Chemnitz ( Love and other demons , Rusalka ), among others . His concert and opera activities have taken him to Paris, Dijon, Rouen, Singapore, Lucerne, Moscow and Berlin, among others. He worked with orchestras such as the Gürzenich Orchestra , the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, the Northwest German Philharmonic and the Orchester de l'Opéra de Rouen.

His operatic repertoire ranges from Mozart and Verdi to Tchaikovsky, Puccini and Strauss to Péter Eötvös . In the field of oratorios he sang Bach, Beethoven, Mendelssohn and others, various operettas and concert roles also belong to his spectrum.

In 2013 he made his debut as Siegfried with the Longborough Festival Opera in Great Britain. He then sang the role in Beijing ( China National Opera , conducted by Yu Feng) and in Linz. Also in 2013 he made his debut as Lohengrin in the Croatian National Opera in Zagreb. Since then he has sung the role in Bratislava, Ljubljana, Augsburg and Würzburg.

Hugo Mallet lives with his wife Victoria Mallet and his son Henry in Lippe Detmold.
