Alberto Zedda (born January 2, 1928 in Milan , † March 6, 2017 in Pesaro ) was an Italian conductor and musicologist .

Life

Alberto Zedda studied music in his birthplace and music history at the University of Urbino . From 1961 to 1963 he was responsible for the Italian repertoire at the Deutsche Oper Berlin and from 1967 to 1969 at the New York City Opera . Since the development of the Rossini Opera Festival from 1980 to 1992 he was its artistic director. In the 1992/1993 season he was artistic director at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan.

He was a leading Rossini expert and taught music history at Urbino University. Together with Rodolfo Celletti he was musical director of the Festival della Valle d'Itria in Martina Franca . He was a member of the artistic advisory board of the Fondazione Rossini in Pesaro and honorary president of the German Rossini Society.

Between 1964 and 2000 he recorded several film compositions as a conductor for cinema and television films, for directors such as Marcello Baldi , Kristian Missirkov, Hans Hulscher and Pierre Cavassilas.
