Hugo Ritter

Hugo Ritter (born April 30, 1926 in Peine , † April 24, 1992 in Peine) was a German graphic designer and university professor .

Life

In 1940 Ritter began evening studies at the Werkkunstschule Braunschweig . After serving in the war and being a prisoner of war, he studied book graphics and graphic design. From 1949 he was a lecturer in font design and characters. In 1955 he took over the management of the graphic design department of the Trier Werkschule, from 1971 part of the Trier location of the Rhineland-Palatinate University of Applied Sciences , today Trier University of Applied Sciences . In 1971 he became deputy director and later dean.

In his freelance work he designed certificates and letters of honor, a. a. for Konrad Adenauer , Theodor Heuss and Pope Pius XII. He also wrote a textbook on the history of typefaces and typeface and book design. In friendly cooperation with the former Rector Heinz Straube from Peine , several picture books were created, an environmental book by the dragon Unrat "for everyone who can read and see and understand", Die Eule zu Peine and Das Wirtshaus zur Eulenburg .

After retirement in Trier, he moved back to Peine. He died on April 24, 1992, shortly before the age of 66.
