Hugo Wetli

Hugo Wetli (born March 20, 1916 in Bern , † August 23, 1972 ibid) was a Swiss painter , graphic artist , lithographer , draftsman and illustrator .

Life

Hugo Wetli first completed an apprenticeship as a draftsman in Bern before completing an apprenticeship as a graphic designer in Bern and Geneva. He was a draftsman in a Bernese animation studio hired, then worked for the house magazine of a Geneva industrial company and changed finally 1949-1956 as head of the graphic workshop of Oltner Herrenkleiderfabrik company. His successor was Hans Küchler . In 1956 he opened his own studio and had the airline Swissair as the main client. But he also illustrated numerous travel books.

Wetli did not begin to paint until the 1950s and has since turned more and more to painting. He was recognized as an important Swiss landscape painter, but also left behind figurative paintings and cityscapes. In 1960, together with Hans Erni , Alfred Pauletto , Celestino Piatti and Kurt Wirth, he organized an exhibition on the subject of graphic artists as painters . In 1964 he was used to design the chemistry pavilion for the national expo.
