Hugo Wyler

Hugo Wyler (* 1928 in Bremgarten , Canton Aargau ) is a Swiss chemist. Until his retirement he was professor of organic chemistry at the Institute of chemical sciences and engineering of the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne . He dealt with the chemistry of betalaine , elemic acids and other secondary plant substances .

Wyler studied at the ETH Zurich and received his doctorate there in 1955. He then switched to André Samuel Dreiding at the University of Zurich . It was there in 1957 that he succeeded in the first separation, crystallization and structural analysis of betanine , the coloring agent in red cactus flowers. From 1966 Wyler worked in Lausanne, from 1967 as a lecturer.
