Hugo Zapałowicz , also Zapalłowich , (born November 15, 1852 in Laibach , † November 20, 1917 in Perowsk ) was a Polish - Austro-Hungarian botanist and geologist. Its official botanical author's abbreviation is “ Zapał. "

Zapałowicz was a military lawyer. He wrote works on the geology and flora of the Carpathian Mountains (including Babia Góra ) and on the flora of Galicia.

In 1889 Zapałowicz toured the border area between Argentina and Chile . In the Sierra de las Angosturas mountains , he described and climbed the mountain that he later named Cerro Copernico . He wrote a book about his world tour from 1888 to 1890, which was published in two volumes in 1899.

Although he was already retired, he became an army judge again in 1914. He died in 1917 as a Russian prisoner of war.
