The Humbaur GmbH is a German manufacturer of trailers , superstructures and trailers from Gersthofen . With over 1,000,000 units sold, Humbaur is one of Europe's leading commercial vehicle manufacturers . The business is run by the Gersthofen entrepreneur Ulrich Humbaur. In 2010 he was appointed "Ambassador" for the Augsburg region .

history

In 1957, Anton Humbaur founded the Humbaur company in Donauwörth as a representative for agricultural machines, trailers , plows and grain mills .

A decline in agricultural machinery sales was recorded from 1978 and owner Anton Humbaur added additional products to the sales program. In 1980/81 the company moved from Donauwörth to Gersthofen near Augsburg to a newly built office building with a warehouse. At the new location, there was also an adjustment to the changed economic conditions: 1981 was the starting shot for the sale of car trailers. In the initial phase, these were imported from Italy and converted for the German market. In 1984 the company started its own car trailer production in Gersthofen. Since 1985 it has been operating under the name Humbaur GmbH. There were also changes in the company's management, as Ulrich Humbaur took over management in 1982. In 1989, the reorientation to the car trailer manufacturer was completed and the sale of agricultural machinery was finally stopped. Horse trailers have also been produced since 1998. The Humbaur GmbH had increasing success in the car trailer market. For this reason, an administration and production building with 22,000 m² of usable space was built in 2001.

The company was represented for the first time in 2004 with a presentation of the heavy-duty program at the IAA in Hanover . In the following year, a second, 23,000 m² production hall with the latest manufacturing technology was built. A new 30 t low loader turntable and the “BIG ONE” semi-trailer were presented at the 2006 IAA. Humbaur further expanded its range with in-house developments in the field of forwarding programs.

In 2007 the company took over polyester supplier NCK. The NCK company was transformed into Polynova GmbH & Co. KG. Furthermore, the expansion of a European service network was started.

As a result of the ongoing market slump in the trailer industry , the competitor Kögel had to file for bankruptcy at the end of July 2009 . Ulrich Humbaur then bought Kögel without taking the company off the market. The aim of the takeover is to establish itself on the market with two brands that remain independent. A total of 442 employees were able to continue to be employed in 2009, while 233 employees were taken on by a transfer company for a transition period of six months.

In 2009 the company introduced the new Humbaur axles, lights and fenders. These bring significant improvements in driving characteristics. In addition, the Loady reverse tipper was presented. In the following year, the new HA series also came onto the German market.

Humbaur Series 7000 Xanthos AERO

In 2012, the factory area was expanded and the new Universal series model was introduced. The new generation of Humbaur horse trailers: Balios / AERO, Xanthos / AERO and Zephir / AERO were launched on the market in 2013. In spring 2014 the new Notos horse trailer was developed. The Notos horse trailer family has been expanded with NotosPLUS and NotosTRIO.

The year 2016 was entirely in the name of the FlexBox. This is where the Humbaur box bodies were introduced. These are available in three versions and are each adapted to the specific purpose: dry, refrigerated and frozen cargo. A wide variety of chassis can be used as the base vehicle.

In the following year, 2017, Humbaur brought the Maximus Deluxe horse trailer onto the market. The top model is fully equipped and stands for maximum security and maximum comfort.

The introduction of the new box trailer models followed in 2018. The sandwich panels are now manufactured in-house.

Products

The portfolio includes around 420 trailer series models for commercial and private customers and 230 models of FlexBox box bodies. Humbaur GmbH produces in Gersthofen u. a. Single-axle trailers, tandem trailers, tipping trailers, vehicle transport trailers, luggage trailers, horse trailers, livestock trailers, construction trailers and forwarding trailers as well as vehicle bodies. Numerous equipment features such as high or low loader and unbraked or braked are available. The entire Humbaur product range is divided into the various series:

Humbaur Series 5000 Plywood HKT

Series 1000 - single-axle trailers: This product series includes trailers for home or hobby use. Available models are e.g. B. HA, HU, HN, Startrailer in different designs such as tiltable loading area or folding drawbar.

Series 2000 - tandem trailer: The models available here are not only suitable for private use. The models like the aluminum HA tandem low loader were developed for tough commercial use and are therefore particularly robust and resistant.
Series 3000 - reverse and 3-way tipper: As the name suggests, the trailers in the series can all be tipped. Depending on the area of application, it is sufficient to tip the trailer backwards (manually or electrically). Models like the HTK are particularly flexible. These can not only be tilted backwards, but also to the right and left.
Series 3500 - Construction machine transporter: Regardless of whether you are doing your own garden renovation or a specialized contractor, the models in the 3500 series are precisely tailored to the transport of all kinds of construction machinery.
Series 8000 - Universal Transporter: These trailers are suitable for a wide variety of transport tasks. From motorcycles to cars to small machines. Sufficient lashing points, a flat drive-on angle and the tailgate, which can be used as a drive-on ramp, make the trailers particularly easy to use in everyday life.

Series 4000 - Vehicle transport trailers: For the safe transport of vehicles such as cars or motorcycles, e.g. B. the car transport low loader MTK, the small vehicle transporter KFT and FTK, the lowerable vehicle transporter HKT or the full poly case HKPA.

Series 5000/5300/5500/5900 - box trailers: These trailers with a body in a thermo-insulating sandwich construction are suitable for the transport of moisture-sensitive goods. Likewise, these luggage tags are used by traders who z. B. offer their goods in markets. The Humbaur box trailers include models such as the COOL TRAILER single-axle / tandem case or the HVK / HVKU sales case.

Series 7000 - horse trailers: The Humbaur horse trailers all have innovations such as B. the EquiDrive chassis. The patented EquiGuard transport security system is standard equipment in numerous models. Numerous variations are available with structures made of full poly, aluminum poly and wood in different colors. The Humbaur horse trailers include models such. B. Single, Equitos, Xanthos, Zephir, Notos or Maximus. There are also special trailers for the simultaneous transport of horse and carriage.

7900 series - livestock trailers: Humbaur trailers, e.g. B. the HTV or HV for the transport of z. B. cows.

10000 series - construction trailers: These trailers serve the construction, landscaping and public sector segments, i.e. trailers over 3.5 t gross vehicle weight. These models include B. the construction machinery low loader HS or high loader HBT as tandem and tridem, the three-way tipper HTK and the low loader HTD (turntable) or HTS (saddle).

Series 11000 - forwarding trailers: These commercial trailers are used for forwarding and distribution traffic. Models from the segment include: B. the tandem flatbed HT 5 t with box body or the tandem flatbed Jumbo HTZ.
Series 50000/60000/70000 - box bodies: The so-called FlexBoxes can be built on different chassis and individually adapted. The Dry series is optimized for the transport of dry freight products and is therefore ideal for, for example, parcel delivery services, piece goods transport or removals. The Cool series can be used to transport goods that need to be cooled. This not only keeps flowers fresh, but also fruits and vegetables. With the Freeze series, Humbaur meets all the standards that are necessary to maintain the deep-freeze chain.

Development figures of employees and commercial vehicles

The Humbaur GmbH is characterized by rapid economic development: where in 1985 there were 10 employees producing 1,500 trailers per year, in 2000 there were already 175 employees with around 20,000 semi-trailers and trailers. In 2010, around 50,000 trailers were manufactured with around 400 employees. In 2015, around 480 employees produced 1,000 trailers per week. In 2020 the meanwhile 550 employees produced over 52,000 trailers. Due to this rapid development, the company is able to produce its 1,000,000th trailer this year.
