The lobster Point is a headland at the Walgreen Coast of the West Antarctic Marie Byrd lands . It forms the eastern cape of the Gurnon Peninsula , the eastern part of the Bear Peninsula . To the south of it, the Bunner glacier flows into the Amundsen Sea .
The United States Geological Survey mapped the headland based on its own surveys and aerial photographs by the United States Navy from 1959 to 1966. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it in 1977 after the US doctor Michael G. Hummer of the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation who carried out biomedical and physiological studies at the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station in the Antarctic winter of 1975 .
