Humphrey Cobb

Humphrey Cobb (* 5. September 1899 in Siena , Italy ; † 25. April 1944 ) was an American screenwriter and Roman writers .

Life

He became known for his anti-war novel Paths of Glory (Engl. Paths of Glory ), the 1957 Stanley Kubrick with Kirk Douglas filmed was.

The son of the Americans Alice Cobb, a physicist, and Arthur Cobb, an artist, served in the Canadian Army for three years during the First World War . This led to the fact that he was often mistaken for a Canadian author.

His parents sent him to a school in England for his basic education , so he did not return to the United States until he was 13 years old, where he continued his education. When he was 17, he traveled to Montreal to join the Canadian regiment. After the war he traveled again to the European countries England and France and did not come back to America until 1934. He wrote his second book, None But the Brave , which he published as a series in a newspaper in 1938. It didn't get as popular as Paths of Glory , though .

At the time of his death, he was working as a copywriter for a New York advertising agency .
