History and design

The stone, a boulder , was erected on the north side of a gorge on the old course of the historic trade route between Halberstadt and Quedlinburg in 1931, when during the Great Depression several unemployed people repaired and stabilized the old dry stone walls and retaining walls on behalf of the local labor service were. Today the route of German emperors and kings runs there .

Due to the construction of the four-lane federal highway 6 , the Hungerstein was in a relatively unfavorable, little-used place, so that it was moved west of the Königstein in 2011 and the inscription was refreshed.

The hunger stone is recorded in the local monument register with registration number 094 45383.

In the area, near the town of Blankenburg (Harz) in Helsunger Bruch, there is the Kleiner Hungerstein , which emerged from a boundary stone on the Prussian-Brunswick border.
