Starvation Prize

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Hungertuch Prize was a literary prize that was donated and awarded from 1976 by the cultural department of the city of Frankfurt am Main and the Association of German Writers in Hessen eV (1976–1996) affiliated to the VS Hessen “for an unknown author” in the German-speaking area . Only first works were admitted to the competition. The winners were presented with a certificate and an original graphic at a public event - it is not known whether and to what extent this prize was endowed with prize money . Later on, this prize was presumably awarded by the Hessian Literature Office until the end of the 1980s and then no longer awarded.

According to a review in the TAZ on October 14, 1989, the Hungertuch Prize was "designed as a counter-prize to the Frankfurt Book Fair ".
