The Hurlingham Club in Hurlingham, Buenos Aires Province (Argentina) is a sports club for golf , tennis , soccer , cricket and polo . It was founded in 1888 and today has international significance as a polo club.

history

The club was named after the Hurlingham Club in England . The city surrounding it and the Partido (administrative district) were named after him. The Hurlingham Club was founded by a group of English people who did not want to do without the usual sports in their new home. The first cricket match was held in January 1890, and the first golf tournament two years later. The Campeonato Abierto de Hurlingham has been held here since 1893 .

In 1922, the Asociación Argentina de Polo (Argentine Polo Association) was founded here.

On an area of ​​73 hectares there is an 18-hole golf course, five polo fields, stables for 300 horses, 18 tennis courts, including 6 grass courts, a cricket field and two swimming pools. There is also a gym, a squash court and a club building with a restaurant, bar and hotel rooms that can be used by members.

Many members of the British royal family have played polo here: Edward VIII , Prince Philip , Prince Charles and Prince Harry .

In 2018 the Hurlingham Club hosted the 2018 Summer Youth Olympic Games golf competitions .

The Campeonato Abierto de Polo del Hurlingham Club is, along with the Argentine Open, the oldest polo tournament in Argentina that is still being played and took place for the 116th time in 2009. It is the second tournament of the Triple Corona . 8 teams take part in the tournament. The team handicap must be between 28 and 40.
