Hussain Saʿid Muhammad ( Arabic حسين سعيد محمد, DMG Ḥusain Saʿīd Muḥammad , after the English transcription often Hussain Saeed Mohammed , also Hussein ; * January 21, 1958 in Baghdad ) is a former Iraqi football player and chairman of the Iraq Football Association from 2004 to 2011 . Said is considered one of the best Iraqi soccer players. With 161 appearances and 61 goals, he is both record player and record scorer for the Iraqi national team . From February 10, 1989 to June 10, 1995, he was also world record holder with 122 to 126 games .

Career

Said first began to play in a few small local clubs before he was appointed to the Iraqi national school team in 1974 and signed a contract with the first division club at-Talaba. From the 1976/77 season he played for the A-team of at-Talaba . With his club Said was Iraqi champions in 1981, 1982 and 1986 , he himself was top scorer in 1981, 1983, 1985 and 1986 .

National team

He was first appointed to the national team in October 1976 for a game against a Saudi Arabian selection. At the U-20 Asian Football Championship in Iran in 1977 , Said was together with the Iraqi team after the 4: 3 over the host Asian champions. He himself scored two goals in the final and was the top scorer with a total of nine goals. He also took part in the first FIFA World Youth Championship in Tunisia, where he scored three goals.

In the same year he was appointed to the senior national team and scored his first international goal in his first international match on July 17, 1977 in a 2-0 win over Indonesia in the 8th minute of the game. With the national team he won the golf cup in 1979 , 1984 and 1988 . In the fifth edition in 1979, he scored ten hits and thus set a record that is still valid today. In 1982 Iraq won the gold medal at the Asian Games , in the final Said scored the decisive 1-0 against Kuwait. He also took part in the 1986 World Cup in Mexico and the 1980, 1984 and 1988 Olympic Games. He played his last international match on March 3, 1990 against the UAE (2-2).

In 1989, Fairplayinternational awarded him the prize in the football category.

End of career

After the end of his active career, Said was president of at-Talaba from 1990 to 2003, after the third Gulf War he succeeded Udai Hussein as president of the Iraqi Football Association. On June 13, 2011 resigned from the chairmanship of the association.

In the vote for Asia's Player of the Century, Said came in 25th, making it the second best Iraqi player after his compatriot Ahmed Radhi .
