The company named after the company's founder Rudolf Hussel was founded in 1949 in Hagen, Westphalia . At the end of 1951, Hussel was already running ten confectionery shops. The number of branches rose to one hundred by 1957. During this time , the company's orientation was changed from mass-produced goods to high-quality products. In 1962 the company was converted into an AG and Herbert Eklöh , a friend of Hussel's, took over 95% of the shares. On March 6, 2014, the parent company Douglas Holding announced that it would part ways with Hussel Süßwaren Fachgeschäften GmbH and sell the subsidiary to Emeram Capital Partners . The sale still required the approval of the antitrust authorities . The purchase price was around 50 million euros. Since December 2013, Douglas Holding has been looking for an investor for the company. With effect from October 1, 2018, Emeram sold Hussel to the Arko Group.
