Zipang ( Japanese ジ パ ン グ , Jipangu from Zipangu as an old name for Japan ) is a manga by Kaiji Kawaguchi , which was also implemented as an anime . It is about an Aegis destroyer of the Japanese Self-Defense Forces , which is transported by a weather phenomenon in the Second World War shortly before the Battle of Midway . Neither Manga nor Anime have been implemented in German so far.

action

The Aegis destroyer JDS Mirai (DDG-182) is on its way to a maneuver with the USA off Hawaii when it gets caught in an unusual weather phenomenon and loses contact with the other ships in the fleet. Instead, he finds himself in the midst of the fleet for the 1942 Midway Invasion. The crew must now repeatedly ask themselves whether they should intervene in the war and thus change world history.

publication

Kaiji Kawaguchi's manga was published in Kōdansha's Morning magazine from 2000 to 49/2009 issue (November 5, 2009) . The chapters were summarized in 43 anthologies ( Tankōbon ).

The manga was awarded the Kōdansha Manga Prize in 2002.

Anime

Studio Deen adapted the manga as an anime television series directed by Kazuhiro Furuhashi , who was also responsible for the script. The 26 episodes, which roughly cover the manga only up to chapter 69, were first broadcast from October 8, 2004 to April 1, 2005 after midnight (and thus on the previous television day ) on TV Tōkyō in the Kantō region, and from October 17 on the affiliated transmitters Tōhoku Hōsō in Miyagi Prefecture and RKB in Fukuoka Prefecture , from October 19 on Hokkaidō Hōsō and from October 31, 2004 on Mainichi Hōsō in Kinki .

The music for the series comes from Toshihiko Sahashi .
