The Husum danske kirke (in German: Danish Church Husum ) is a church building of the Evangelical Lutheran Danish Church in South Schleswig ( Danish Dansk Kirke i Sydslesvig ) in the town of Husum in the district of North Friesland .

history

The church was consecrated in February 1991 and is therefore one of the younger church buildings in Schleswig-Holstein . Before that, the Danish congregation met in the monastery church of the Gasthaus zum Ritter St. Jürgen. The new church building as well as the church furniture were designed by the Danish architect Alan Havsteen-Mikkelsen (1938–2002). The octagonal building is modeled in many ways on the shape of a ship. The round windows are reminiscent of portholes on a ship. There is no church tower , instead there is a small bell structure on the west gable. A mosaic picture above the entrance door shows the Christ figure of the great Jellingstein and thus ties in with the Christian tradition of Denmark.

The interior of the church appears open and bright. Benches, altar and pulpit are made of light wood. The central area is the altar area, which is surrounded by an altar screen with a communion bench (as is common in Scandinavian churches). The altarpiece that characterizes the church interior was designed by the Faroese artist Zacharias Heinesen and shows how Jesus ended the storm on the Sea of Galilee . In 1993 Queen Ingrid presented the church with a crucifix by the artist Sven Havsteen-Mikkelsen , which is decorated with five pieces of amber from the west coast of Jutland. The organ from 1993 comes from the workshop of the organ builder Anders Havgaard Rasmussen from Bramminge. The church also has a votive ship representing the Danmark training ship .

The parish ( Den danske menighed for Husum og omegn ) is a member of the Dansk Kirke i Sydslesvig and shares a parish office with the Danish parish in Friedrichstadt ( Frederiksstad ), which uses the local Mennonite Church as a meeting place.
