Hyocomium armoricum is a species of moss from the order of the Hypnales . It is the only species in the genus Hyocomium .
features
The plants grow in loose lawns. They are regularly feathered. The stems are up to 15 cm long and sometimes grow stoloniform . The leaves of the stems are triangular and ovate with a lanceolate tip. They are sloping, have a longitudinal fold and are sharply sawn. The rib is short and double or absent. The branch leaves are smaller and always without a rib. The lamina cells are prosenchymatic, in the leaf wings they are oval, elongated to six-sided.
The capsule is inclined to stand horizontally. The seta is warty. Sporogons are seldom formed.
Distribution and locations
The species grows on wet, lime-free rock near mountain streams and waterfalls. It is found in Europe and Asia. In Germany it occurs in the Black Forest, Bavaria, Rhineland-Palatinate, the Eifel and the Harz Mountains.
