Hyoseris frutescens is a species of the genus Hyoseris in the sunflower family (Asteraceae). The species is onlynativeto Malta .

Hyoseris frutescens is a perennial , herbaceous plant . It grows as a native rosette, its glossy, dark green, fleshy leaves are 5 to 15 centimeters long and cut down to the midrib . The numerous individual, more or less rounded lobes are sessile, winged at the base but not encompassing the stem and almost pointed at the outer end.
The flowering period extends from late summer to late spring. The inflorescence axis, which is bent far down, is 5 to 20 centimeters long and carries a single basket at the end , which consists exclusively of ray-flowers that get shorter and shorter from the outside in. The outer bracts are short lanceolate, the inner ones at least twice as long and lanceolate-ovate.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 16.
Occurrence
Hyoseris frutescens occurs exclusively in Malta, where it grows on rocky locations near the coast. The species is rare.
Systematics
The species was first described in 1988 by the Italian botanists Salvatore Brullo and Pietro Pavone .
