Hyoseris scabra is a species of the genus Hyoseris in the sunflower family (Asteraceae).
features
Hyoseris scabra is an annual rosette therophyte that reaches a size of 6 to 12 centimeters. The leaves are all basal. They are 40 to 100 millimeters long and 3 to 14 millimeters wide, inverted-lanceolate-linear, chop-saw-shaped, pinnate and coarse-haired and floury.
The shaft is ascending or prostrate and thickened under the heads. The bracts are 7 to 10 millimeters long and upright-bent together. The outer ones are arranged in groups of five, sub-sublime and small, the inner ones ten, glabrous and lanceolate. The fruits ( achenes ) are 7 to 8 mm long. The outer fruits are compressed and have a pappus of short hairs. The inner ones, on the other hand, are round, their pappus consists of linear scales.
The flowering period extends from February to April.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 16.
Occurrence
Hyoseris scabra occurs in the Mediterranean area. You can find them in Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Spain, Gibraltar, Portugal, France, Italy, on the Balearic Islands, in Corsica, Sardinia, Sicily, Malta, Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania, Greece, Crete , Cyprus, the Aegean Sea, European and Asian Turkey, Syria, Lebanon and Israel. In Crete, the species grows in Phrygana and coastal fallow land at altitudes from 0 to 1300 meters.
