Hyphoderma malenconii is a mushroom species from the family of the butterfly relatives (Meruliaceae). It forms carpet-like, membranous fruiting bodies of whitish color and grows on conifers . The species is likely to be found in the Mediterranean part of Europe.
features
Macroscopic features
Hyphoderma malenconii has resupinate, membranous-waxy fruiting bodies typical of the genus Hyphoderma . They are whitish when young, their hymenium is smooth. The edge is not clearly contoured.
Microscopic features
As with all Hyphoderma species, the hyphae structure of Hyphoderma malenconii is monomitic, i.e. it shows exclusively generative hyphae . The 2.5–3.5 µm wide hyphae are hyaline , thin-walled and richly branched. Their septa always have buckles . Dendrohyphidia 1–1.5 µm wide are present. The cystids are pearl-shaped, thin to slightly thick-walled and not encrusted. With 50–100 × 5–8 µm, some of them protrude slightly beyond the fruit layer. The basidia of the species are club-shaped to slightly urn-shaped. They have four sterigmata and measure 30–40 × 4–6 µm. They have a buckle at the base . Their spores are sub-cylindrical and slightly curved, hyaline and thin-walled. They measure 12–15 × 4.5–6 µm and often have large oil droplets in the protoplasm .
distribution
The known distribution of the species covers large parts of Europe from France to the Caucasus . She probably lives in a Mediterranean area. It is considered very rare everywhere.
ecology
Hyphoderma malenconii grows on conifers such as pine trees ( Pinus pinea ) and Juniperus macrocarpa ; typical types of scrub vegetation in the Mediterranean.
