Hypofunction
As hypofunction in which is Medicine a reduced performance of an organ called, thus a sub-function , d. H. an expression or a value below the normal value . The opposite is hyperfunction .
Examples for this are:
- Hypotension : low blood pressure.
- in the thyroid : hypothyroidism , congenital hypothyroidism , Pickardt syndrome (tertiary hypothyroidism)
- in the parathyroid glands : hypoparathyroidism
- in the gonads : hypogonadism , hypogonadotropic hypogonadism
- in the adrenal cortex : adrenal insufficiency
- Osteopetrosis : caused by a hereditary underactive function of cells that break down bone ( osteoclasts )
