chronology
Electric Music for the Mind and Body I-Feel-Like-I'm-Fixin'-to-Die Together

I-Feel-Like-I'm-Fixin'-to-Die is Country Joe and the Fish's second album , released in 1967. It contains the group's most famous track, the Vietnam War - protest song I-Feel-Like-I'm-Fixin'-to-Die Rag .

It followed just four months after the first album. Overall, with the exception of the aggressive title track, the pieces are quieter, more thoughtful and more ballad-like , and Country Joe's voice and acoustic guitar are used. The I-Feel-Like-I'm-Fixin'-to-Die Rag was already released as an EP in 1965 and can be found on this album in a rockier, better-produced version. Janis is dedicated to Janis Joplin , with whom McDonald was previously briefed.

Reception and reviews

Together with the debut album, it was by far the band's most successful album; it reached number 67 on the Billboard 200 . Allmusic rates the album with 4.5 stars out of 5. Nevertheless, in the album review by Ritchie Unterberger for Allmusic, the view is that the album lags behind the first album. Reference is also made to Frank Zappa 's album We're Only in It for the Money . The album by Country Joe and the Fish embodies like no other the psychedelic culture of San Francisco poked by Zappa , with “weepy minor melodies, flowing guitar runs and serious, self-centered searching, just as if they were each other set up as a target to let the mothers tear you away. "

Inside Rock's criticism is far more positive: "The spectrum of the songs ranges from classic rock in the piece Rock Coast Blues to the decidedly psychedelic great moments of the album such as Pat's Song and Janis to the enchanting Who Am I ..."
