The I. Oldenburgische Deichband is a water and soil association based in Brake ( Lower Saxony ).

The dyke tape is responsible for the construction and maintenance of the dykes and their associated systems as well as the monitoring of the dike safety in the association area.

The dike band was founded as a dyke cooperative by the dyke regulations for the Duchy of Oldenburg on June 8, 1855 and began its work on January 1, 1856.

The dike line begins at Wardenburg on the eastern side of the Hunte on the Hemmelsbäker Canal, continues along the Hunte to the Weser , along the Weser to the Ochtum barrage and along the Ochtum to the end of the sand dike in Hasbergen (Delmenhorst). Within this area, each property belongs to the association, which has an altitude of up to six meters above sea ​​level . So-called island locations, i.e. elevations above an altitude of six meters above sea ​​level within the association area, also belong to the association area.

In the 2012 budget year, the dyke tape is responsible for the following measures:

  • Raising and strengthening the Weser dike between Ranzenbüttel and Ganspe
  • Establishing the dike defense path at Buttelerhörne

The Lower Saxony State Office for Water Management, Coastal Protection and Nature Conservation has published a detailed description of these and other measures over several budget years .
