history
Production of the I11 cars began in 1995 and was completed in 1997. The tests were carried out on the Velim railway test ring . The main area of application for the wagons is the IC line A from Ostend via Brussels to Eupen . The changeover of this line to I11 cars took place in July 1996. The use of push-pull trains with the control car of the type I11 began in February 1998. In the meantime, the cars have also been used in the two EuroCity trains Iris and Vauban that reach Belgium . But Cologne was also the destination of these cars.
technology
There are three different versions of the I11 cars: I11 A designates the first class cars, I11 B the second class cars and I11 BDx the control cars. Both in terms of exterior and interior , the cars are similar to the multiple units of the AM 96 series , in whose development Bombardier was also involved. The front and driver's cab of the control cars were taken over from row 13 . With the locomotives of this type or the 18 series , push-pull trains can also be formed.
The I11 cars were the first NMBS / SNCB cars that could reach a speed of 200 km / h. This speed is planned to be extended on the HSL 2 high-speed line between Brussels and Liège . At 200 km / h the noise level is 65 dB.
Compared to the wagons previously used in Belgium, the I11 wagons have been further developed in numerous respects: Air conditioning and handicapped-accessible, closed chemical toilets are available, electronic passenger information systems are installed at the ends of the wagons in the interior and on the outside of the wagons, and the interior lighting is indirect and there is a wheelchair compartment. The arrangement and comfort level of the seats are based on high-speed traffic.
