IC courier service

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

With the IC courier service ( own spelling : ic: kurier-Service ), Deutsche Bahn (DB) offers a courier service that sends smaller freight shipments with fast passenger trains.

history

In the form of express goods , freight consignments were carried in passenger trains in Germany until the early 1990s. The Deutsche Bundesbahn gave up the service in 1989/90, also because modern express traffic, IC trains and later ICE trains , run without luggage carts .

organization

Since 2003, DB has been offering the IC courier service in cooperation with its partner time: matters , a Lufthansa subsidiary, in ICE, IC and EC trains throughout Germany. In international traffic, the service extends to selected destinations such as Paris ( Paris-Est train station ), Vienna , Basel Badischer Bahnhof and Amsterdam , i.e. stations that are served by DB EC trains and ICE trains. Around 140 train stations are involved in the service.

procedure

At the IC and ICE train stations, the shipments are received at DB Information or an ic: courier counter and then handed over to the train crew of a suitable train. As a rule, the shipment is then transported in a service compartment .

Collecting the shipment from the sender and delivering it directly to the recipient is possible for an additional fee. In the event that delivery is not made on time, for example because a train is late, there is a money-back guarantee.

The most frequently offered connection is Hamburg – Berlin, 20 times a day, duration: 1:45 hours, the furthest is the Munich – Hamburg route at 5:30 hours (15 times a day) and as a connection abroad z. B. Frankfurt – Paris with 3:45 hours offered 8 times a day. A shipment from Frankfurt to Berlin costs around 125 euros (22 cents / km) plus 33 euros for door-to-door delivery between the front door and the train station at each end of the transport route.
