The record winner is the Australian team with three wins. The tournament is organized by the International Cricket Council .
history
The tournament was first held in 1988 to mark the 200th anniversary of the arrival of the First Fleet in Australia . In this, Australia was able to prevail against the team from Pakistan in the final. There was then a ten-year break before the next event could take place in South Africa. Since then, the tournament has been held every two years. After England beat New Zealand in the 1998 final, India beat hosts Sri Lanka in 2000. A consolation round was also played from the 1998 tournament. In 2002 the Australians again prevailed before Pakistan achieved a double triumph in 2004 and 2006. In 2008, Malaysia was the first time the tournament was held in a non-test nation. This was won by India in the final against South Africa. In 2010 the tournament was supposed to be held in Kenya, but was then awarded to New Zealand. In the final, Australia prevailed against Pakistan to their fourth success. The 2012 tournament will also be held in Australia. Bangladesh is the current world champion.
