ICE D

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The ICE D ( D for continuous operation or endurance testing ) was a test ICE operated by Deutsche Bahn .

The test train was, along with the ICE S , one of two vehicles on which the distributed drive of the coming third ICE generation was tested at the end of the 1990s .

Traction motors , brakes , transformers and other components were installed, mostly under the passenger compartment (underfloor) over the entire length of the train. On powerheads should be dispensed with. This concept enabled a multi-system vehicle to be developed while maintaining the maximum axle load of 17 t in cross-border traffic .

history

The industry converted four ICE-2 intermediate cars (410 201 to 203 and 810 201) into test vehicles at its own expense.

The ICE D was formed from the power cars of a near-series ICE 2 ( 402 013 and 402 014 ) and the intermediate car of the ICE 1 ( multiple unit 13 ). The powered car 410 203 , which accommodated prototypes of powered bogies of the future ICE 3, was also lined up between the car train and the 402 014 powered end car . One of the two traction converters of the adjacent power car supplied the four traction motors, which each provided an output of 500  kW . The traction motors in the rear bogie of the power end had been switched off to avoid over-motorization. The test car had no interior, was not approved for passengers and only had four workplaces for measurement technicians.

The train ran between April 1997 and mid-1999 on the Hamburg - Munich route in a one-day cycle as ICE 791 / ICE 792. The mileage was around 2000 km per day.

After the end of the testing phase in the summer of 1999, multiple unit 13 was again equipped with its original ICE 1 multiple units , while the 402 013 and 402 014 multiple units continued to be used for ICE 2 multiple units. The powered intermediate car 410 203 was returned to the industry.
