ID: Exorcist is a Finnish groove and melodic death metal band from Kotka that was founded in 2001.

history

The band was formed in January 2001 and emerged from the decay remnants of the group Exorcist. The line-up initially consisted of the guitarists Sami Hauru and Jyrki “Jykä” Jänkälä, the drummer Ville Nissinen and the singer Jaakko “Jaska” Mäntymaa. Shortly afterwards, the session bassist Runde joined them. With this line-up, a first EP was recorded in a local recording studio in the spring of that year , with Arttu Horttanainen working as a producer. The material was then mixed by Anssi Kippo in the Astia Studio . This was followed by a few appearances. In 2002 another EP called Souls for Sell was produced. The recordings took place in Kotka under the direction of Horttanainens and Haurus. After the recordings, round left the group and was replaced by Ville Muona. After further appearances, Mäntymaa did his military service in the summer of 2002 , which is why the band paused and concerts that had already been booked had to be canceled. From September 2002 to January 2003 the band was active in Finland and recorded the third EP Two Years of Downhill . Mäntymaa's military service ended at the beginning of January, whereupon Hauru moved in a weekend later. Hauru mixed up the EP on the weekends that he was at home. In the spring and summer of 2003 only one concert was given. On October 9, 2003, Hauru finished his military service, then Nissinen had to do his from January 2004. In the following period the group recorded the EP Promote Chaos at the end of May 2004 . After Tommi Vehmas had joined the band as the new bass player, work on the EP Flatline began . The phonogram was released in 2005. In 2010, Droptone Productions released their debut album Under a Ton of Ice , which was followed by a second album three years later under the name Paths to Exile on Inverse Records .

style

In his review of Flatline, Luxi Lahtinen of metal-rules.com described the sound of the music as massive, "heavy" and aggressive, with influences from Pantera , later Sepultura , Machine Head , Meshuggah , Lamb of God and Hatebreed . Florian from Metal.de assigned Paths to Exile to Melodic Death Metal and was reminded of Illdisposed , The Project Hate MCMXCIX and Destinity . The group can still create its own style and does not sound like a copy of these groups. The album is characterized above all by "[n] ach driving riffs , catchy melodies and powerful growls ". Occasionally, however, the group also uses plain vocals. In slower passages one reminds of insomnium .
