The Project Hate MCMXCIX (often just The Project Hate ) is a Swedish death metal band that was formed in Örebro in 1998 .

history

The Project Hate MCMXCIX was founded in 1998 by long-time friends Lord K. Philipson and Jörgen Sandström (formerly at Grave and Entombed ). In the same year the band completed the album Deadmarch: Initiation of Blasphemy prepared by Philipson which was never released. Together with the well-known Swedish music producer Dan Swanö , they then recorded their first demo and in 1999 received a recording contract with the German label Massacre Records .

In the following year, the debut album Cybersonic Superchrist was released , which was received positively by critics, but was a commercial failure due to poor distribution. The album When We Are Done, Your Flesh Will Be Ours , which followed in 2001 , met the same fate. Since the band blamed their label at the time for this, they finally separated from Massacre Records in 2002.

In 2002 the band gave a concert in Helsinki , which was released as a live album under the name Killing Hellsinki in April 2003. In the same year the third album Hate, Dominate, Congregate, Eliminate was released on the new label Threeman Recordings.

In spring 2005, the recordings for the album Armageddon March Eternal - Symphonies of Slit Wrists began . In addition to Dan Swanö, Mieszko Talarczyk , who had also worked on the band's previous albums, was involved in the production. Since the latter was killed in the 2004 tsunami , the release was delayed until October 2005.

In 2006 the band changed their label again and signed a record deal with StormVox, the label of the Swedish actor and musician Peter Stormare . There the fifth album In Hora Mortis Nostræ was released in 2007 . In July 2009 the label Vic Records released the sixth album The Lustrate Process .

In 2010 singer Jonna Enckell left the band to concentrate on her solo career. It has been replaced by Ruby Roque. Shortly thereafter, bassist Michael Håkansson left the band. Philipson is now taking over his part temporarily. Finally, drummer Thomas Ohlsson was swapped for Tobias Gustafsson ( Vomitory , Torture Division ).

style

The Project Hate are a death metal band whose music contains experimental approaches that are rather untypical for death metal. The later albums in particular often have influences from electronic music that come close to industrial . The music is also characterized by short guitar solos and an interplay between male growling and clear female vocals.
